Nature and people of Brazil, in images, since 1970.

From the docks of Santos to the national parks

Araquém Alcântara was born in Florianópolis in 1951, and it was in Santos that he began to photograph. Since 1970 he has crossed Brazil with his camera: from the Juréia to the Amazon, from the Pantanal to the sertão (Brazil's semi-arid backlands), from the national parks to portraits of the Brazilian people. He is the first photographer to portray every national park in the country. That road has produced more than 60 books, more than 70 solo exhibitions and works in collections such as MASP, the Pinacoteca de São Paulo and the Centre Pompidou.
